Para Alpine – More Than Alpine Skiing

More Than Alpine Skiing – A Community Built on Mastery and Belonging

Heat Experience wants to support para sports in Norway and help highlight the importance of this work. We contribute to arenas where people with different abilities can take part in physical activity and sport on their own terms.

Freidig Para Alpine is an initiative built on exactly these values. Here, community, the joy of skiing and personal mastery are central. Athletes are given the opportunity to learn alpine skiing, challenge themselves and experience meaningful moments in nature within a community.

A Para Alpine Program Takes Shape

The program emerged from a clear need. During a recruitment camp in Vassfjellet, organised by the Norwegian Ski Federation in February 2024, Terje Holm participated as both a coach and supporter. At the camp he met several participants who expressed a lack of a permanent and organised para alpine skiing program in the region.

After the gathering, Terje contacted the regional ski federation and the Para Sports Center in Trøndelag. Together with Freidig Alpin, they quickly agreed to integrate para alpine skiing into the club. Just before Easter in 2024, Freidig Para Alpine was officially approved as part of the club’s regular activities.

The program is still developing, but the ambition is clear: to create a safe, inclusive and motivating environment for both new and experienced para athletes.

Para Alpine Is About More Than Performance

Para alpine skiing is about much more than results and competition. It is about being recognized for what you can do, challenging yourself, and experiencing a sense of belonging within an inclusive sports environment.

When an adapted sports program is combined with the right equipment and supportive tools, the barrier to participation becomes lower. This allows more people with disabilities to take part in physical activity, experience personal achievement and become part of a community.

Freidig Para Alpine aims to give people with disabilities the same opportunity to experience the joy of skiing as everyone else. Through many years in para sports, Terje has seen firsthand how mastery, community, and belonging through sport build confidence and improve quality of life.

Terje says:

“As a coach, volunteer and ambassador for the Para Sports Center, I am passionate about contributing to exactly this: a more inclusive society where everyone has real opportunities to participate in sport and physical activity on their own terms.”

Battery-Powered Heated Clothing Makes It Easier to Stay Active Longer

In para alpine skiing, many athletes spend long periods sitting still on ski lifts and may have reduced circulation or mobility. This makes the body more susceptible to cold, especially in the feet and extremities.

Experiences from the athletes show that battery-powered heated socks from Heat Experience provide consistent and comfortable warmth throughout training sessions. With the right heated clothing, it becomes easier to stay focused, spend more time on the slopes and complete training sessions with greater comfort.

For both athletes and coaches, this means more energy, better flow during training – and, not least, even more joy of skiing.
